After a great first race of the season for the F1 Academy ladies, we went into Race 2 with Pin on Pole again

Race 2

Pin covered Pulling off straight away, Lovinfosse tried to make a move on Marti but couldn't get it done, pushing Lovinfosse back into the path of a very fast Chambers who passed into turn 1,  unfortunately doing it off the track and carrying on without giving the place back. Jess Edgar almost went past Lovinfosse as well just 2 corners later and Bustemante went around the outside of Hausmann in a great move almost getting Nobel as well into the last corner, the fight carried on down the start finish straight with Nobel keeping the position. Lots of action on the first lap but all the cars got away clean but that was short lived.
A safety car was needed on lap 3 after Lovinfosse spun when Chambers hit the back of her car while being overtaken into turn 1,  as Lovinfosse tried to pull away from the spin she hit Lia Block who could not have avoided the stationary car and was spun herself, frustrating for the Williams back driver but both got going again
Picture
Lap 5 and we got going again, Minus Hausmann with a technical issue and Lovinfosse with car damage. Pulling was right on the gearbox of Pin as she lead the pack round to the line for the restart. The 2 went into turn 1 side by side, wheel to wheel but Pulling just couldn't get past Pin in the Prema. Amna Al Qubaisi got past Bustemante for 8th as Edgar was right on the back of Marti in 4th, further back Nobel went deep on the brakes, hitting the curb so hard the car was all 4 tyres off the ground.
Lap 6 another Safety car was brought out for the wildcard Muhra of Reema Juffali, that was buried in the wall at exit of turn 5 , during the safety car period Lia Block was given a pitlane speeding penalty, making a tough day worse through very little fault of her own and Chambers also received a penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage when she passed Lovinfosse earlier in the race.
Picture
Lap 10 Pin again lead the pack round for the 2nd restart of the day, backing them right up as she went through the last few corners. She went before turn 27 getting a gap to Abbi Pulling and stopping an attack into turn 1. Marti cut the 1st corner and contact at turn 1 with Al Qubaisi, removed Nobels rear wing, leaving her at the bottom of the order with Bustemante also getting a shunt as she went around the outside of the incident.
The Al Qubaisi sisters were having a great fight with Lia Block in the closing laps in a strong recovery drive for Block.
Lap 12 Pin had a 1.5 second lead on Pulling, Block was in an Al Qubaisi sandwich for 8th place and Marti was just holding off Edgar for 4th. With there being no compulsory Pit stops in F1 Academy all penalties would be added after the race and the 5 cars behind Chambers were on the move to get within the 5 seconds that would be added to her time. The Chequered flag feel with Pin at the top again followed by Pulling. But as the flag fell nobody told Pin and she continued at full racing speed for a further lap and a half till the track was made Red and the team finally told her to come in slowly. Bustemante, both Al Qubaisi sisters and Schreiner all jumped Chambers in the standings after he penalty was applied.
As Pin returned to the pits after lapping for longer thsn she should have the FIA announced she was under investigation for taking the Chequered flag twice and could potentially lose her 2nd win of the weekend.
Another great race for Pin and the F1 Academy grid. In the first weekend of 2024 they have shown they can race as hard and as well as the male dominated Formula and long may Susie Wolf be the champion of Female motorsport because she is doing all of us proud!

Doriane Pin dominated Qualifying by over 7 tenths of a second in her Prema ahead of Abbi Pulling who left nothing on the track trying to beat the rapid Pin in her Rodin Motorsport car with Ferrari backed Weug in 3rd who finished over a second down on Pole. Wild card driver Reema Juffali in her Muhra car will be taking part for this weekend. Reema is the 1st female Saudi Arabian racing driver and racing in her home country is a landmark moment in her career and for female motor racing as a whole with women only gaining the right to drive in Saudi Arabia in 2018. Lia Block(daughter of the late, great Ken Block) had a great first day in Single seaters qualifying 7th. Lia moved from American Rally to the F1 Academy trading 4 wheel drive for an open cockpit and to race against the fastest women on the planet.
On to Race 1 of the weekend and Race 1 of the 2024 season.

Race 1 -Saudi Arabia

The drama started early with Mclaren's Bustamante  struggled to get away for the formation lap but after a few jolts forward the Filipino driver got away to join the rest of the pack.
They were held on the grid for a long time before they were sent around for a 2nd Formation lap.
Off the start Pin got away well, Pulling couldn't have a look into the 1st chicane, all 16 cars got away clean, but Bianca Bustamante had a moment at turn 5 and took a lot of curb. Hamna Qubaisi was fighting for 12th in her Redbull livery car,  Chambers tried a move on Bustamante both going deep and allowing Block closer as Bustamante was told to box her ART car with talk of a puncture over the radio. She didn't pit and carried on but was not happy with the car.
Lap 3 Nobel passed on Hausmann before she took the place back, while Bustamante cut the 1st corner again as Yellow flags came out for Reema Juffali & Amna Al Qubaisi who came together. The yellow flag was quickly escalated to a safety car but not before Chambers got past the struggling Bustamante.

Lap 5 and they got going again, Pin backed the pack up, waiting to run till the last second leaving Pulling with Weug on the back of her attempting a move round the outside of turn1 but didn't make it stick. Block is the next in line to attack Bustamante  as Hausmann was  gaining on Block, having a look at the back of the Williams livery car.
Juffali, De Heus & Schreiner went wheel to wheel, corner for corner having a great battle at the back of the grid.
Lap 6 and Edgar managed to jump both Lia Block and Hausmann while the 2 were fighting each other down the straight but it was short lives as Jess Edgar got a puncture when Hausmann's front wing touched her rear right tyre during the move and forced her down the order.
Hamna Qubaisi and Nobel had a great baack and forth for 10th place with Schreiner joining the fight and making it 3 cars into turn 1 with Hamna cutting the corner to take the place from Nobel but giving the place back later in the lap.
3 Laps to go Pin was 1.192 ahead of Pulling who herself had pulled out a 3 second gap back to 3rd place Weug. Marti had held on to 4th with Lovinfosse 5th.
Just a lap later and Pulling had the gap down to under a second but was struggling to make any meaningful dent in Pin's lead. Bastamante had held on to 7th with Block close behind after a troubled start to the race and enough trips off the circuit she got a black and white flag for track limits.
Lap 11 Yellow Flags out for Lia Block who took to much kerb through the chicane, making her spin and drop to 16th and last.
Last lap and Lovinfosse tried to make a move on Marti and clipped the rear wheel of the Hilfiger car taking Marti out of the race but Lovinfosse managing to keep 5th place.
The leading pair now started to fight over the point for fastest lap with Prema wanting Pin to bring home every available point today but Pulling just bested her taking 2nd and the fastest lap.
Picture
Pin showed real dominance but Abbi Pulling getting as close as she did at the end of Race 1 will defiantly push er on in Race 2 to catch and pass the now Championship leader Pin.
It was a really great race by all the women involved but on this World Women's Day the F1 Academy did the world Proud showing that female racing is alive, well and thriving on the F1 Calendar.
On to Race 2 with Pin starting on Pole and Pulling right behind her in 2nd hoping to take her first win of 2024!

Practice

The track went green on the 1st 40 minute Practice session of the season and it was a steady stream of cars out onto the track with only 15 cars on the grid, traffic is less of an issue for the F1 Academy than other series, especial at a street track like Jeddah. Weug topped the times first before being beaten by Bustamante and then Pin by over a second.
Bustamante kissed the wall at turn 1 after misjudging the braking zone but saved it and carried on with no damage.

Williams backed Lia Block found the run off at turn 22 after going deep on the brakes, later riding the kerbs hard in her first ever single seater weekend while Amna al Qubaisi  spun her MP car after out braking herself.
20 minutes on the clock French driver Doriane Pin was fastest with  Abbi Pulling in 2nd & Marti in 3rd.
14 minutes to go on track and most cars where in the pits  making those all important set up changes and look at their data to try to make the most of such a small amount of practice time before Qualifying later that day and the 2 races to come tomorrow and Saturday.

10 to go and on her first Qualifying simulation run Bustemante found the run off at turn 8 after a big wobble under steering mid turn 8. Wild card driver & the 1st ever Saudi Arabian Female racing driver was down in 16th in her Muhra car.
The battle at the top was  Pin & Pulling as the swapped fastest sector on their flying laps, Marti was still 3rd, Ferrari driver Weug was 4th and Lia Block had found her form and put herself up to 5th. Mclarens Bustemante dropped down the times to 11th as others set their Qualifying practice laps as the session drew to a close.
2 minutes to go, Lola Lovinfosse puts her self up to 3rd fastest, Pulling puts in a flying lap to try and beat Pin but ended 0.272 behind the French  Mercedes backed Driver as Block went 3rd fastest in her ART.
As the Chequered flag fell on the session Haussen caught some air off the kerbs at turn 22. Bustemante couldn't set a better time finishing 13th for Mclaren and ART. Lia Block had a brilliant session finishing 3rd in her first ever single seater session. Pin topped the time, closely followed by Pulling.

Qualifying

All the cars straight out eager to get out and set the first of the 2 fast laps they need to qualify  well for both Races.
Pin was straight to the top of the times as she was in Practice this morning but Abbi Pulling was on a great lap to try and knock the French driver off the top spot and doing so going almost a second ahead of Pin 1st time. Hausmann went 2nd fastest with Pin 3rd till she crossed the timing line next and went top over Pulling also by almost a second. Bustemante was 7th in her repaired ART car after she damaged the front suspension tapping the wall into turn1.

18 minutes to go and thew top 3 was Pin, Pulling & Hausmann but with Pulling on a rapid lap, almost going deep at turn 22 but kept it going and losing as little time as possible but it did cost her the pole and she ended up +0.329 down on Pin who just seemed in total control of her Prema and the Qualifying session. Edgar jumped up the order to 3rd in her Rodin Motorsport car and Nobel joined the top 5 ahead of Lia Block in 6th. Marti & Chambers crossed the line together and jump to 3rd and 4th in the order showing the mid field battle is tight among these talented Female drivers.
Lovinfosse jumped up to 4th before Weug went 2nd fastest ahead of Pulling, before Pulling took the place back but Pin is just mighty here and is 1.212 seconds faster than than 2nd place.
4 minutes to go and Weug again beat the time of Pulling taking 2nd fastest back as Lia Bloc went 5th fastest behind Lovinfosse. With the second ticking down Bustemante did well to get up to 4th with time to complete 1 more lap. Block lost time in the middle sector and stayed 6th fastest with just enough time for 1 more crack at it, Al Qubaisi couldn't improve in the Redbull livery car  as Pulling again took back 2nd place but just couldn't get within 7 tenths of Pin in 1st.
