Formula One has announced, on Thursday afternoon, the sprint race locations for the 2025 World Championship. The sprint races have been part of the Formula One World Championship since 2021, with three taking place that year and the very first one coming at Silverstone, on the weekend of the British Grand Prix. Six locations have been announced with there being just one adjustment from the 2024 Calendar with Austria losing its honour of holding a sprint weekend in 2025. The Red Bull Ring will lose the honour of holding a sprint race in place of the Spa Francorchamps circuit, which hosts the Belgian Grand Prix. Rounds in China, Miami, Austin, Brazil and Qatar will all continue to host a sprint weekend like so in 2024. The rounds in China and Miami have already been run in 2024, both circuits making their sprint weekend debuts, as neither event had held a sprint weekend previously. The Belgian Grand Prix will be the only change to the sprint weekend selection of 2024 but the event has held a sprint weekend in the 2023 campaign which was dominated by Max Verstappen. Speaking to Formula 1 media about the 2025 sprint calendar, Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said: "The Sprint has been a great success for Formula 1, bringing all our fans more action and racing on the track. We are seeing the proof of this in our audience data, fan attendance on Fridays and from the promoters and partners. "As we prepare to celebrate our 75th anniversary in 2025 we will always celebrate out incredible history, but we must always be looking ahead, innovating, and improving to deliver the best for out growing and diverse fanbase." Since the sprint weekends began at Silverstone in 2021, no driver has claimed more sprint race victories than Max Verstappen with 10 victories overall. Only four other drivers have taken victory in a sprint race who were Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez, George Russell and most recently Oscar Piastri. On the recent announcement of the 2025 calendar, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said: "As the FIA Formula One World Championship celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025, the Sprint will also enter its fifth year as part of the competition. "Over that time, and through our strong collaboration with Formula 1 and with the input of all the teams, it has been through several different iterations and the regulations and format have evolved to give us the exciting and popular sprints we have today." It will be an exciting time for the circuits who will once again be hosting sprint races in the 2025 season. The first sprint race of the 2025 campaign will be at the Chinese Grand Prix weekend, the second round of the 2025 championship between March 21-23. However, three sprint rounds in 2024 remain with the next round coming to Austin, Texas for Round 19 of the 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship at the United States Grand Prix.
