Taking the place of Estaban Ocon during free practice one of the Canadian Grand prix, Jack Doohan has been a reoccurring name whenever the discussion of Alpine signings surfaces. This will be the Australians fourth free practice session since joining the French team as an academy driver in 2022, moving from Redbulls junior team. Doohan has previously stated he feels as if he wouldn’t be in the position to driver an F1 car if he had stayed where he was (at redbull). After completing two full seasons in the FIA Formula 2 championship the 21 year old finished his run in the championship in 3rd before becoming Alpines full time reserve driver. Ending the season receiving inaugural Formula 2 Best Performance Award alongside Richard Verschoor. Formula 2 stats: Race starts: 59 Wins: 6 Podiums: 11 Poles: 5 Fastest lap: 7 Doohan is also the runner up of the 2021 FIA F3 championship, 2019 and 2020 F3 Asian championship.
It is known to the motorsport community that Ocon and Gasly haven’t got the smoothest relationship, with Ocon recently receiving a 5 place grid penalty that he will be completing this weekend in Canada for a collision between his teammates in Monaco. The pair have been racing against each other since the age of 6 with tensions starting back with karting. Now this rivalry has become the topic of Drive to survive season 6 episode 5 'Civil War'.
