A very emotional Charles Leclerc won the Italian Grand Prix, and the Tifosi went wild! This win marks Charles's second of the season after pulling off an incredible one-stop race. Franco Colapinto's debut in the F1 Grand Prix was a thrilling moment as he secured the 12th position. Alex Albon also added to the excitement by scoring points for Williams, as did Kevin Magnussen for Haas. McLaren finished the weekend just eight points behind Red Bull in the constructors' championships, with Ferrari in third, just 39 points behind Red Bull. Race Facts
Lando Norris started on the pole for the fifth time at the Italian Grand Prix, with teammate Oscar Piastri locking out an all-McLaren front row. Norris leads into the first corner as Russell tries a move but ends off the track and rejoins behind both Ferraris. But Norris's lead doesn't last long when his teammate overtakes him on the chicane, and Oscar takes the lead in the Italian Grand Prix. Things got worse for Norris as Leclerc also overtook him, and Norris went from P1 to P3 in less than a lap. At the end of lap one, Piastri was in the lead, followed by Leclerc, Norris, Sainz, Hamilton, Verstappen and Russell. Russell picked up some front-wing damage on the first lap. Russell lost the most places in the first lap of the front runners, with Nico Hulkenberg dropping down six places in the back runners after a collision with Daniel Ricciardo. The top ten drivers all started on medium tyres, except Verstappen and Perez, who initially opted for hard tyres. On lap 7, Yuki Tsunoda retires his car on lap eight after picking up damage after a collision on lap one with Hulkenberg. Daniel Ricciardo picked up a five-second time after his collision with Hulkenberg on lap one. Nico Hulkenberg receives a ten second time penalty after colliding with Tsunoda and forcing him to retire from the race. On lap 11, Perez caught up to Russell, who, with damage, didn't fight to keep Perez behind him. Perez moved into 7th behind his teammate. Russell entered the pits on lap 12 to change his front wing and rejoined the race in 16th behind Zhou. Lando Norris pits on lap 15 to cover Russell, changes to hard tyres, and rejoins in 9th. McLaren also adjusts his front wing on the pit stop. Leclerc pits on lap 16 along with Hamilton to try to undercut Norris. They rejoin the track both behind Norris. Piastri pits on lap 17 and rejoins the track in 4th place. Further back, Colapinto also pits and gets back on track in 17th place. Meanwhile, Ricciardo was again noted for failing to follow a time penalty correctly and received a ten-second penalty. Sainz leads the Italian Grand Prix on lap 18, still yet to pit, just in front of Verstappen and Perez, with Piastri in fourth place but net first as the cars in front were yet to pit. Sainz pitted on lap 20 onto hard tyres and rejoined the track in 6th place, or net 4th and 8.566 seconds behind his teammate. Kevin Magnussen is noted for causing a collision with Pierre Gasly on lap 18 and receives a ten-second time penalty and two penalty points. On lap 22, Verstappen pits for hard tyres but has a slow stop of 6.2 seconds and confirms he is using a two-stop strategy. Norris is told he is allowed to race Piastri with 'papaya rules' - keep distance and don't crash. On lap 29, Piastri leads, followed by Norris and Leclerc, with Sainz 12.328 seconds behind. Russell and Perez avoid contact and Perez overtakes Russell easily on lap 31. Meanwhile, further in front, Norris makes a mistake on Turn 4 going down the escape road on lap 31, and Leclerc is within DRS range, ready for the overtake. Norris pitted once again on lap 33 with a slow pit stop and came out ahead of Perez in 6th place. On lap 36, Perez pits for a second time from 7th and rejoins the track in 9th place in reaction to Russell's pit stop, and it pays off for Perez coming out ahead of Russell. Norris gains rapidly on Verstappen while Hamilton pits on lap 38 and rejoins in 6th place, 15.136s behind Norris in 6th. Russell makes another move on Perez, and this time, Russell stays ahead. Piastri pits again on lap 39 from the lead of the race and rejoins in 3rd place 2.105s ahead of Verstappen in third place. Leaving Leclerc to lead the race ahead of Sainz. On lap 40, Norris tries to overtake Verstappen, but some great defending leaves Norris waiting patiently behind. But he manages to get the overtake done on the start/finish straight and goes into 4th. On lap 42, both Ferraris are still 14 seconds ahead of the rest of the field, and the teams worry that they are using a one-stop strategy. Verstappen pits again on lap 42 for medium tyres. McLaren tells its drivers to push as they realise the Ferraris are using a one-stop strategy and have a big lead. But with ten laps to go, can they pull off the ultimate surprise? On lap 44, Verstappen chases down Hamilton for 5th place, with Hamilton 14.108 seconds behind Norris in fifth place. Sainz gets chased down by Piastri but also complains about his tyres. Piastri gets past on lap 45 but has seven laps to chase down an 11.397 gap to Leclerc. Hamilton continues to charge ahead, closing the gap between himself and Norris, ensuring that if Ferrari needs to pit, they will be ahead. On lap 48, Norris reaches the back of Sainz, overtakes him, and moves into third place. Piastri continues to chase down Leclerc, closing the gap slowly. With five laps to go, the gap between first and second is 8.307 seconds. Meanwhile, Russell gains on Verstappen with a 4.543-second gap. Piastri takes time away from Leclerc, but he is just too far ahead. Charles Leclerc wins the Italian Grand Prix, with Piastri 4.015 seconds behind after Ferrari pulls the ultimate strategy game. "An incredible feeling," Leclerc said. "I thought the first time would feel like this and the second time, if there was one, wouldn't feel as special. "But my god, the emotions in the final laps - just like 2019. Incredible. "Monaco and Monza are the two races I want to win every year. "Obviously I want to win as many as possible, and the world championship as soon as possible, but these are the two most special and I have managed to win them this year. It is so, so special."
