Estonian Hitech Pulse-Eight Formula 2 driver Paul Aron was announced to become the 2025 BWT Alpine Formula 1 Team reserve driver on Saturday. Aron, who took his maiden Formula 2 victory in the most recent Formula 2 race on Sunday at Qatar, rounded off a very strong weekend at the Lusail International Circuit by becoming the 17th different winner of the 2024 Formula 2 season. 2024 reserve drive for Alpine for Jack Doohan will step forward into the main Alpine F1 Team driver lineup for the 2025 season to partner Pierre Gasly, and therefore this leaves a vacancy in that position. Instead of putting someone within their academy in that position, they have decided to recruit Aron into theirs as the 20-year old was without a driver academy following his departure from Mercedes at the end of 2023. The signing was announced by Alpine on Saturday November 30th, the day following Aron taking pole in dominant fashion for Sunday's feature race, which would end up being his maiden victory. On signing with Alpine for 2025, Aron spoke to Alpine media in regard to becoming their reserve driver. Aron said: "It's incredibly special to be joining BWT Alpine Formula 1 Team. It is clear that this is a great place to be for any young driver and I'm really pleased that Flavio [Briatore] and Oliver [Oakes] have given me this opportunity. "Before 2025 and the hard work that will come with me being the team's Reserve Driver, I have a championship to focus on for the remainder of this year and I will be giving it my all to compete for the title. "I'm looking forward to really beginning the work and continuing my career pathway in motorsport." Brandon Whiteside
