Jaguar driver Mitch Evans was quickest in Free Practice 3 ahead of round seven E-Prix day in the principality of Monte Carlo, on Sunday.

Evans was fastest in a busy and action-packed session that saw a Full Course Yellow and a Red Flag stoppage, with both occurring at different moments. The red flag was caused due to Dan Ticktum's Cupra Kiro having an electrical fault after he ran over a curb at turn 18.

It was the New Zealander Evans who was fastest with a 1:26.614 and he set the lap ahead of Jake Dennis who was second for Andretti and Nyck De Vries who was third for Mahindra. The top three were separated by half a tenth.

Championship leader Oliver Rowland finished in 11th place and is under investigation after the session after crossing the pit exit line while the light at the end of the pits was still red. Rowland leads the championship by 34 points ahead of round seven.

How Free Practice 3 unfolded

Sunday morning rolled around and it was race day once again in Monte Carlo and following the drama in round six one day prior, on Saturday, it was set to be more of the same throughout.

Oliver Rowland comes into Sunday's round seven of the 2024/25 championship with a 34-point championship lead over Pascal Wehrlein. Rowland mastered the strategy to win in Saturday's E-Prix, which was round six.

First up on Sunday would be Free Practice 3, where the drivers were to have 40 minutes as opposed to two 30-minute session that they had on Saturday, which were Free Practice 1 and Free Practice 2.

Dan Ticktum had topped both Saturday Free Practice sessions for Cupra Kiro, he was looking to make it three at the Circuit De Monaco.

The green light was on at the end of the pit which signalled the start of the practice session and there were cars out immediately with both Porsche cars leading the field onto the infamous circuit.

Edoardo Mortara and David Beckmann were the only drivers not out on circuit in the early phase as the other 20 drivers were wanting to get a feel of the circuit with the threat of rain in the air.

Beckmann did get on the circuit within the first 10 minutes of the session though whereas Mortara had failed to show in the first quarter of the session. At the end of the first 10 minutes, it was Mortara's Mahindra teammate Nyck De Vries who held the fastest time.

De Vries' time was a 1:29.262 but that would be beaten by Jake Dennis who jumped to the top of the times with a 1:29.244. McLaren's Taylor Barnard also went faster with De Vries dropping down to third.

An unusual collision happened between Robin Frijns of Envision and Zane Maloney of Lola Yamaha ABT in the swimming pool section. Maloney ran into the back of Frijns who was slow on the racing line, while Maloney was on a fast lap. This was investigated by the Stewards.

A Full Course Yellow was out momentarily to clear the Lola Yamaha front wing that had broken off Maloney's car. Both drivers though were able to get their machines back to the pit lane with Frijns upset he had no warning from his team that a fast Maloney was approaching.

The track began to ramp up and a lot of time was being found by many drivers. This saw the times changing a lot and Nick Cassidy was a driver to benefit as he went fastest ahead of Maximilian Gunther by a tenth of a second.

Cassidy was leading the session with a 1:26.820 but that was until Barnard beat the lap by over three tenths of a second to move top of the times as the session reached the halfway point.

That was until Barnard's lap was deleted due to a track limit violation and this meant Cassidy was back to the top of the times ahead of Gunther, Norman Nato, Sam Bird and Rowland who were the provisional top five.

De Vries was continuing his strong pace from Saturday and with his latest best lap time went second quickest and just 0.023 behind the fastest time of the session which remained Cassidy!

A big lock up from Dan Ticktum through the swimming pool section ended up meaning that something was wrong with his car and he had parked up at La Rascasse. This resulted in the red flag being brought out, which suspended track action.

With great work by the track marshals, the session was back underway with the rest of the field back out onto the circuit. With just over five minutes of the session remaining, it was set to be a busy end to Free Practice 3.

Jaguar looked to have strong pace which was missing in parts on Saturday. They would be 1-2 as Mitch Evans jumped above his teammate to set the fastest lap of the session at that point.

However, there were good improvements from De Vries and Jake Dennis, which ended up splitting the 1-2 but Evans' was hanging on to top spot with a 1:26.614. Half a tenth separated the top three with two minutes remaining.

The lap from Evans was enough to see him finish the session fastest overall from the Jaguar driver. Despite late challenges from Dennis, De Vries, Pascal Wehrlein and Edoardo Mortara he finished Free Practice 3 quickest.

Evans shared the top three with Dennis who was second and De Vries who was third. Wehrlein and Mortara completed the top five with Nick Cassidy's early benchmark time being good enough for sixth.

Maximilian Gunther was seventh for DS Penske ahead of former DS Penske driver Stoffel Vandoorne who was eighth for Maserati. Nissan's Norman Nato and NEOM McLaren's Sam Bird rounded off the top 10.

Action was to return for qualifying in just over an hour's time which will set the grid for Sunday's E-Prix, which is round seven of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
