FIA Formula 2, whilst preparing for the fifth round at Monaco, announced its 2025 calendar on Wednesday.

Formula 2, like 2024, will operate 14 events across the year starting and ending the year supporting the start and end races of the Formula One World Championship - in Australia and Abu Dhabi respectively.

Since 2017, Formula 2 has grown and grown, with viewing and interest figures growing since its birth. Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Oscar Piastri have all tasted championship glory.

It will be joined by FIA Formula 3, who also released their 2025 calendar on Wednesday. Gabriel Bortoleto joined FIA Formula 2 from FIA Formula 3 this year. Bortoleto won the 2023 title in impressive fashion.

For the first time in the series, it will start in Melbourne, Australia. Formula 2 has already raced there before in 2023 and in the current season of 2024. However, for the first time it will kick off the season, with Formula 1 and Formula 3. A fun fact is that Formula 1 will have the season opener in Australia for the first time since 2019.

On the news, speaking to Formula 2 via their website, the President and CEO of Formula 1 Stefano Domenicali said: "It is fantastic to publish the F2 calendar that will again see the series join Formula 1 at 14 Grand Prix next season.

"The pyramid system is vital to the long-term success of Formula 1, and to have this close connection between the two series is not only great for our fans who are treated  to even more wheel-to-wheel action, but for the drivers who gain competitive experience racing on F1 circuits and can showcase their talents in front of full grandstands, global TV audiences and watching F1 teams."

Domenicali has been F1 president since the start of the 2021 season.

Bruno Michel, Formula 2 and Formula 3 CEO said via Formula 2's website "“I’m very pleased to announce the F2 2025 calendar, which will comprise the same amount of rounds than the current season - fourteen.

"It’s the right balance between European rounds and fly-aways, across three continents, and keeping in mind the costs for our teams and drivers."

The season will commence on March 14 in Melbourne while it will end at the Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on December 07 2025.

Exciting times for Formula 2 with an intense championship battle brewing with Isack Hadjar and Paul Aron in great form and no feature race points for Zane Maloney in Imola - means this battle is wide open.

There is a 2024 season to continue with and free practice will commence on May 23 for round five at Monaco.
