Saudi Arabia Unveil Plans for New Qiddiya Circuit

Saudi Arabia have given us all a first look at their plans for the future of Saudi Arabian Motor racing. The Qiddiya circuit, will be part of a wider construction project 30 miles from the capital city of Riyadh, but is not due to be ready until 2027 at the earliest.
The plan is for Qiddiya to replace Jeddah on the F1 calendar, although the chairman of the Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation, Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al Faisal, made it clear last year that Saudi Arabia would be happy to host 2 races if an agreement with F1 could be reached.
The new 21 corner, 200mph track with an elevation change of 108 meters, 3 DRS zones and a 70m incline to the first corner will feature a swimming pool overlooking parts of the track, and a theme park running along side the track with what will be the worlds tallest and fastest rollercoaster.

The creators of this new age, high speed track are ex-F1 driver Alex Wurz and established circuit designer Herman Tilke in the hopes of establishing Qiddiya City as the new home of Saudi motorsport and one of the world's leading motorsport venues.
In 2020 Saudi Arabia signed a ten-year contract with Formula One to host a race in the country from 2021 onwards and with the track expected to be finished in 2027 we will for now continue to race in Jeddah. ​
